Thursday 02 ****ONES TO WATCH***** SHEARING PINX (canada) / BITCHES / ULTIMATE THRUSH / DIVORCE / MR PEPPERMINT Now Wave inspired by free jazz, no wave and hardcore. Tightly crafted songs intermixed with stream of consciousness fire music.
“Think Arab on Radar having sex with Lightning Bolt while Steve Albini's guitar watches with a video camera. That's right. Noise fucking core.”
“Sprawling, squalling, semi-improvised, and sweaty, Vancouver’s Shearing Pinx have emerged as the Canadian west coast answer to AIDS Wolf. But while the latter deal with in-your-face antagonism,Shearing Pinx continually attempt to reach some sort of noisy, psychedelic catharsis on their multitudinous releases.” / Bitches are a London based boy/girl bass/drum duo who make fuzzed up noise pop for dancing and fighting andgood times. Blake plays bass and shouts. Staz hits drums and screams. The Guardian describes them as "Channelling Henry Rollins on black coffee and X-Ray Spex on Panda Pops." www.myspace.com/shearingpinx www.myspace.com/ultimatethrush www.myspace.com/mrmrpeppermint

Saturday 04 upstairs: resident djs in the bar free downstairs: ****ONES TO WATCH***** CITAY / JOHN KNOX SEX CLUB / LOSS LEADER San Francisco's psyche-rock band Citay is a project from ex-Piano Magic man Ezra Feinberg and Tim Green from Drag City’s The Fucking Champs. A new Record just came out on Dead Oceans; home of Bowerbirds,Dirty Proje ctors, Evangelicals and These Are Powers. Borne on a buoyant pulse of strummed acoustic guitars, with the shimmer of flanged electric guitars zig-zagging between them. In places, the seamless, flowing grooves are replac ed with more rhythmic, danceable arrangements..then fluting keyboard sounds, and the gentle pattering of tabla or bongos.. / John Knox Sex Club: their name may conjure images of bondage-born deviancy, but John Knox Sex Club (JKSC) believe in more traditional values. Flashing a spectrum of rich instrumentation, the Glasgow quintet’s debut LP spotlights a band boasting a remarkable way with song progression. A certain dedication to quiet-loud atmospherics makes a contemporary comparison to The Twilight Sad inevitable, but – whereas their Chem19 brethren can be more immediate in their delivery – JKSC’s efforts unfurl with fascinating depth. www.myspace.com/citay07

Wednesday 08 ****ONES TO WATCH***** SISTER MANTOS (L.A.) / B-MOVIE JUNKIES / FOX GUT DAATA Oscar Miguel Santos, born in El Salvdor, is an artist, multi-instrumentalist and composer. After moving to Los Angeles, he studied fine arts at the University of California Los Angeles, with a focus on Performance Art and Video. His artwork has been exhibited in galleries in both, Los Angeles and New York. For the last 10 years he has been furthering his artistic endeavours and cultivating his performance skills in various groups around Los Angeles in the punk, experimental and electronic scenes. Now, gathering all these experiences and influences together and directing them into one outlet. Sister Mantos is dance music at its core, with heavy doses of tribal percussion and experimental noise. A performance is a live experiment and never the same twice. A true assault on all the senses, with visuals accompanying each song, the audience is quickly transformed into a participating community instinctively driven to get out of their seats. Oscar composes and produces all the music, however, a Sister Mantos show can be anything from, Oscar by himself, to as many as 8 members on stage. / B-MovieJunkies are a six piece bass driven electro pop band with inspired by Krautrock, rock and punk. Fairly new on The Glasgow scene, they’ve been well received already at a number of gigs including Get a Room at The Brunswick , the TBC gig at The Buff club, as well as The O2 Academy, The Box and Macsorley’s, where they have played with bands such as Admiral fallow and Pooch to name a few..

Saturday 18 upstairs: resident djs in the bar free downstairs: ****ONES TO WATCH***** EUGENE CHARBOURNE with percussionist ROGER TURNER Eugene Chadbourne is an American improvisor, guitarist and banjoist. Highly eclectic and unconventional, Chadbourne's most formative influence is free jazz. He is also known as the inventor of the electric rake. This musical instrument is made by attaching a microphone or an electric guitar pickup to an ordinary lawn rake. The sounds that it can produce are impossible to describe. Chadbourne’s songs make perfect sense. They typically combine lyrics with political satire, fetching melodic structures, use of a pedal to accomplish blatant and jarring switches in guitar tone, creative mash-ups of folk, noisy rock, jazz and country and a variety of vocal voicings according to the dramatic requirements of each composition. A real improviser. www.myspace.com/eugenechadbourne

Solo project of Dave "Needles" Dixon, the erstwhile guitar maestro and frontman extraordinaire of underground psych-lords The Hidden Masters, this band showcases Dave's more laid-back, jazz-soaked, crooner-influenced side. ATLANTIC MASSEY (Liverpool, UK).... Beyond the Backwoods are proud to present this Liverpool-based folk-rock band on their first trip to Scotland. Formed from the whiskey-soaked ashes of The Prelude, the 'Massey continue the tradition of booze-fuelled folk jangle and memorable tunes. / TOM SNOWBALL- Tom Davis is an acoustic singer songwriter from Glasgow.
